2008
Aaron Maxfield has been riding pocket bikes since December 2007.
He started riding at the Minimoto Racing Ltd track at Hullavington, Wiltshire where they founded the National Pocket Bike championship series.
Until the weekend of 23/08/08, Aaron had never ridden on an outside track. That weekend at South Wales Karting Centre at LLandow, he rode in qualifying sessions on the Saturday and 3 races on the Sunday. These 3 races gain points that are added together to result in the overall win of the race of the day.
During the first heat (where it rained heavily) Aaron gained 1st place, in the second and third heats, he gained 4th and 5th position. This gave him a total of 49 points, which resulted in winning the Junior Novice class. This class is made up of children of around the same age; however all other children have had previous experience of outdoor track racing and had been racing competitively for at least a year. Having entered only one round of the season, the overall championship placing for Aaron was 10th.
In November 2008, Aaron entered the National Pocketbike Series Winter Championship. He won all 3 heats, giving him an overall 1st place and set the fastest lap under extreme wet weather conditions. This championship was abandoned by the organisers after the first round, however Aaron was, by default, the NPS Winter Champion.
In November 2008 and 2009, Aaron took part in demonstration pocketbike riding at the National Motorcycle Show at the NEC, the objective is to raise awareness of riding pocketbikes in safe and controlled environments, and encouraging new young riders into the sport.
Aaron rode in 2008 under the number 111 (as Aaron Slight did in World Super Bikes during the 1990’s)
