In 2010 Aaron rode an Aprilia RS 125 in the Superteens Challenge. He was also entered in the Nitro Newcomers championship that runs as part of the main championship. This is run by Thundersport GB, and coverage is shown throughout the season on MotorsTV. This championship is a big leap from entry level racing and the competition is immense.
Aaron started the year with the racing number 11 as 111 was unavailable; however he later changed his number to # 48, as his personal tribute to Shoya Tomizawa, who sadly lost his life at Misano in September 2010.
2010 had been a difficult year for Aaron, dogged by technical problems, a zero budget and injury. By Round 4 he had 6 DNF/DNS for these reasons. He had been hit twice off by other riders; sometimes resulting in a visit to the local A&E, and again at Brands Hatch resulting in a DNF, but luckily no injury.
At Brands Hatch, Aaron raced with a broken collar bone received 9 days earlier (due to a non-racing incident) which proves that at the young age of 13, he has determination and commitment to his racing.
At the last round of 2010 at Donington, Aaron's results were looking better, qualifying in 9th (5th Nitro Newcomers) and gaining a 10th (5th NN), until a crash on Sunday morning that caused huge amounts of damage to the bike and wrote off his leathers.
Technical issues have followed Aaron all year, his bike being one of the oldest and least competitive in the paddock. Until Round 8 Aaron rode with the suspension set up for the previous owner who was a foot taller and 4 stone heavier, due to lack of funds to buy the correct parts. Riding in this way was an achievement in itself as he had to constantly fight the bike and has not been able to gain any trust in its handling. Little things have broken down at every meeting and as it’s a learning curve for all involved, corrections have taken up valuable racing time before the cause was found.
Aaron has no 2010 bikes, no bike to laptop software, the family are not able to provide the funds for him to be on a race team, or has he ever been able to spend the winter in Spain gaining valuable track time and experience.
